We are sorry to tell you that Beresford King-Smith, a past and eminent chairman of MEMF for sixteen years, has died.   He had been very unwell for some time and had reached the stage where he could not manage at home. He was admitted to Good Hope hospital three months after his 90th birthday, and died peacefully three days later on the 28th September.

MEMF would not be so successful as it is today without the huge contribution made by Beresford. He set the highest standards for the workshop programmes and indeed led some of them himself. His understanding and knowledge of early music was key to persuading top musicians to come and tutor for us. And he used to organise excellent New Year parties! He was a giant in our little world and will be hugely missed.

Do visit his website, which has biographical detail and will serve very well as a memorial
