DESCRIPTION:A workshop for voices singing Music of the English and European Renaissance with the ever popular Tutor David Allinson \nThe music\nAs the festive season fades into memory and the dark days of January stretch ahead\, revel in a day of music on texts celebrating light. As ever\, the final selection of pieces depends on the forces signed up\, but it is expected that the programme will include settings of O Lux Beata Trinitas\, Christe qui lux es and Te lucis ante terminum by composers including Byrd\, Robert White and Thomas Tallis\, and ‘Lux aeterna’ movements drawn from continental Renaissance Requiem settings. Tenors\, in particular\, are encouraged to sign up early”. \nThe Tutor\nWe are very pleased to welcome back one of our most popular vocal tutors – David Allinson. David writes that “he specialises in the history and performance of sacred choral polyphony; his research focuses on the performance and meaning of early Tudor music. A tenor\, conductor and editor of music\, he has directed countless workshops and residential courses in the UK and on the continent\, including for every UK Early Music Forum\, for organisations such as Run by Singers and for private groups. He is currently Director of Music at Canterbury Christ Church University where he leads the teaching of performance\, programmes public concerts and masterclasses and directs the Chamber Choir and Chorus\, regularly performing in Canterbury and Rochester cathedrals; before that he was Teaching Fellow in Music at Bristol University and held lecturing posts at several Oxford colleges. David has been director the Renaissance Singers (London) since 2010\, as well as recently conducting other choirs including Cantores\, De Profundis and the Latin Schola at Our Lady and the English Martyrs\, Cambridge”.
